The OECD Observatory of Public Sector Innovation (OPSI)  and its partners at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Research and Innovation are excited to convene innovators from around the world for a conference on Innovation in Government: The New Normal on 20-21 November 2017. The conference will highlight insights from OPSI’s work with countries that are transforming their operations and improving the lives of their people through innovation. It will bring together government leaders, public servants, and innovative partners in industry and civil society to connect, share experiences, and collaborate.

Transforming governments starts with field projects, highly connected to present problems. But what about change in the future, when it comes to envision what governments might look like in 10, 15 or 20 years ? Design fiction is a design practice that consists in « intentionally using prototypes to explain the change ». Stéphane Vincent, co-founder of the French not-for-profit association La 27e Région, will describe through practical examples how governments and local authorities start using design fiction in order to re-interrogate the future practices in policy making, public planning, public management and policy instruments.
