Exploring new ways of working and new ways of doing things can be hard when an organisation is focused on delivering on current commitments and dealing with current priorities. Innovation labs can provide organisations with the space to look at things differently, to challenge some of the current assumptions, and to understand issues in different ways that allow for new ways of responding. Yet labs can also be seen as “that thing over there”, unconnected to the “real work” of the organisation. How then can innovation labs carve out room to challenge the status quo, to discover new insights and devise new responses, and yet be connected to core business? This session will explore the practicalities of innovation labs and different ways of making them work.
