Systems Transformation in Cities

Cities are one of the most dynamic innovation settings today, as most technological and social experiments are carried out on the local level. Close to the citizens and providing direct services to diverse populations, they are the engines of change. Thus, smart city solutions such as IoT,  MAAS, and the circular economy promise to create a safer, more sustainable and resilient living environment for all. But does the reality live up to the promise? Does the increased experimentation on the city level add up to larger transformation of cities and help to solve societal challenges? Or are the initiatives fragmented between different interest? This session will discuss how governments can work towards systemic transformation on the city level. Recent OPSI work on Systems Approaches to Engaging Citizens, Envisioning the Future and Creating Public Value will be highlighted.
