The OECD Observatory of Public Sector Innovation (OPSI)  and its partners at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Research and Innovation are excited to convene innovators from around the world for a conference on Innovation in Government: The New Normal on 20-21 November 2017. The conference will highlight insights from OPSI’s work with countries that are transforming their operations and improving the lives of their people through innovation. It will bring together government leaders, public servants, and innovative partners in industry and civil society to connect, share experiences, and collaborate.

Behavioural insights use psychological and cognitive factors that shape people’s behaviours to draft more impactful and cost-sound public policies. This approach breaks from classical approaches and instead devises ways to ‘nudge’ people into acting in specific, anticipated, manners. Behavioural insights are a growing research area in policy-making and innovation, and more must be done for public sector innovation to make full use of this new technique. This session will explore ways in which behavioural insights apply to innovation, and how the two can work together to allow for innovative systemic changes in the public sector.
